Our Story

Oak Tree Homes began in 2005 when Dan and his wife Michelle decided that while life in the U.S. Air Force was an awesome adventure, it was time for a new challenge. They returned to Wilton, Iowa where Dan grew up and with the support of family, started Oak Tree Homes.

The Oak Tree Homes Team

Fourteen years of military service as an aircraft maintenance officer solidified Dan’s strong core values of integrity, service and excellence originally forged as an Iowa farm boy. Together with his wife Michelle, they lead the Oak Tree Homes’ team of skilled designers and builders.

Dan founded Oak Tree Homes with his wife Michelle in 2005 when they moved back home to Iowa after completing 14 years of service in the United States Air Force. He has significant experience in leadership, project management and communication which prove as the foundation for Oak Tree Homes, a full service design-build firm. Dan has extensive knowledge in building science and construction gained through both academic and hands-on experience.

Dan leverages his thorough understanding of building practice to work with clients to create projects that are, beautiful,  practical and economical. Dan’s approach draws from his core values of integrity and excellence as well as a desire to create an exceptional building experience for his clients.

As one of Iowa’s only true design-build firms focusing on highly and ultra-energy efficient design and construction, Oak Tree Homes provides unparalleled service to its clients.

Michelle Marine

Michelle Marine

Creative Content Director

Michelle Marine is a bilingual, semi-crunchy mom of four with a snarky sense of humor and an MA in Linguistics. Twelve years abroad in Europe and Asia fueled her passion for green living and her role as Creative Content Director for Oak Tree Homes allows her to share this passion with other people. Michelle loves Great Pyrenees dogs, backyard chickens, solar power, passive houses, and aspires to be Barbara Kingsolver and eat only locally produced food. She also blogs at SimplifyLiveLove.com where she encourages people to grow their own food and live a green life.

Travis Hugunin

Travis Hugunin

Production Supervisor and Master Carpenter

Travis has worked as a professional in the construction industry for over 20 years. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa, he started his career as a carpenter in the in the residential building environment. Through multiple years of hands-on work, he gained the skill set and experience required of a master carpenter. He then transitioned to co-owner of a custom cabinet shop where he perfected precision carpentry and cabinetmaking skills as well as high-end finishing technics, production management and team leadership.

Travis uses his extensive experience to ensure all projects meet the impressive standards of craftsmanship and quality that Oak Tree Homes’ clients expect.

Tracy Lewandowski

Project Development Manager

Tracy brings over 25 years of experience in all aspects of business management, project development, and client relations to Oak Tree Homes. As Project Development Manager she has extensive business operations knowledge and the ability to work one-on-one with each client to provide them with a customized and enjoyable experience from start to finish. Tracy’s commitment to detailed project specifications, quality materials and high production standards, along with her keen eye for organization and communication, ensures the highest level of project management for every Oak Tree Homes client.

Devann Wheeler

Devan Wheeler

Lead Carpenter

Devan is a Muscatine High School graduate and joined Oak Tree Homes in 2009. He has a wide range of construction skills and also has education in building science and ultra-high-performance home construction.

Jeremy Stigers

Jeremy Stigers

Assistant Carpenter

Jeremy Stigers joined Oak Tree Homes in 2015 as an assistant carpenter. He is knowledgeable in multiple areas of construction to include framing, trim, insulation, air sealing and building science. Jeremy lives in Wilton and enjoys shooting, sports, and spending time with his family.

Greg Lewandowski

Assistant Production Superintendent

Greg brings over 20 years of business management, production, logistics, and scheduling experience to Oak Tree Homes that was refined while owning and operating his own company in his hometown, Chicago. Greg has a strong background in client relations as well as expertise servicing and maintaining all types of equipment. Greg’s exceptional communication skills and extensive business knowledge ensure that every detail from project start to finish meets the highest level of quality and standards that Oak Tree Homes clients count on.
